    She was equipped with 2 engine rooms. In each engine room there was a pair of GM 16-278A's putting out 1500 HP each for a total of 6000 shaft horsepower. Electricity was supplied by a pair of GM 8268 in-line generators.


Biggest job on these was keeping the oil wiped off. We always seemed to have two cylinders apart most of the time.


Readings were taken every hour, sometimes every 1/2 hour when underway.
Switch Board was always a great place to crawl behind and grab a few winks.  We very seldom ever had control of the engines, as the bridge played with them always.
